Merry Christmas!! I’m super excited to start wrapping presents this week. We’re getting our tree this weekend and I have all my wrapping paper picked out. I LOVE giftwrapping. Like, seriously love it. This year I decided that Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Whipped Cream is the perfect accompaniment for nights wrapping those shiny gifts. Last year in a strange twist of fate the kids ended up at Grandma and Grandpa’s house on a weekday morning. I spent that time wrapping every present I could find, drinking hot chocolate and watching Harry Potter. It felt like a super fun date with myself to celebrate the holidays.

Check out this super cute wrapping paper I found at Marshalls. It’s been really nice to have a Marshalls in town. I have to make sure I don’t go too often or I’ll spend all the money! Last year I learned that they have awesome gift wrap so I made sure to stop there to pick out my stash for this year. I don’t go with a major theme for gift wrap but I like all my colors to coordinate. Last year we picked out the cutest little hipster dog paper that made Connor super happy. In case you’re wondering I’m not getting paid by Marshalls to rave about them (but if you ever read this Marshalls marketing team I’d be thrilled to!)

Ok, enough about wrapping paper and on to the Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Whipped Cream! I’m not a big fan of hot chocolate from a packet because it’s just soooooo tooth-achingly sweet. I’ve made it from scratch before but I always wing it and it takes a while to get it right. This time I determined to get my proportions figured out so that it’s repeatable. In the past I always dumped milk, sugar and baking cocoa into a pan and whisked like mad to mix it all up. I finally got smart and mixed up the sugar and cocoa with a little water. Genius! Just add milk afterwards and it’s a beautiful smooth, rich, creamy hot chocolate.

Once you have the chocolate mixed up you can start on the amazing topping that is peppermint whipped cream. I can’t believe that I’ve never made this before but I’ve never even thought about it before this year. Whip up the cream until it’s in nice stiff peaks. Pour your hot chocolate into some cute glasses, pile on the whipped cream, sprinkle with some fun colored sugar and drink up!

This recipe makes 2-4 servings. It really depends on the size of the glasses you’re filling. You’ll get 2-3 servings with large mugs, 4 for standard size and 5-6 if they’re small ones.
I hope you enjoy this Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Whipped Cream as your new winter treat. Thanks for pinning and sharing!
