Now that Cookie Week is over it’s time for one last post: Packaging Holiday Cookies. I love handing out homemade goodies during the holidays, but it can be a struggle to come up with interesting presentation. I’ve used pretty plates but I like the idea of a package rather than just a plate of cookies. This year I decided I would put some work in and figure out a few different packaging methods. Of course you can use these ideas to spark your own, but if you want to do the same or similar packaging I’m including a list of materials for each example. Pop your email in the box below and I’ll send you the sheet of free printable tags I designed for this post!

I had to start with Halloween because it’s the perfect time for treats! For this simple but fun design I started with a white paper lunch bag. First I cut out my “No tricks, Just Treats” tag and picked out a sheet of scrapbook paper that I liked to frame it. Cut the scrapbook paper about 1/4″ larger on the height and width than the tag then stick the tag onto it with double sided tape. I also used the double sided tape to stick the whole tag onto the front of the paper bag. Fold the top over to the desired height and punch two holes in the top for the bow. Fill your bag with candy or cookies and tie it shut with some natural jute twine and colored baker’s twine.

Mariposa Matstack (scrapbook paper) – this is the one I used for these tags

Natural Jute Twine

Baker’s Twine – or other decorative string

Double Sided Tape

For this cute little Halloween treat box I used a small cookie box with a window on top. Cut two pieces of ribbon that reach around the box. You can either tape the tag to the vertical ribbon with double sided tape or you can make two slits in the tag with an x-acto knife and thread the ribbon through. Fill the box with cookies and wrap the horizontal ribbon around the box and tape the ends to the box. Do the same with the vertical ribbon and it’s ready to hand out!

Cookie Boxes with window top – Amazon doesn’t have the same ones I got at the local craft store but theirs are taller and can fit more in them. Mine fit only two cookies.

5/8″ Organza Ribbon

These bags are designed for cookies which is really convenient. Just pop the cardboard circle into the bottom and stack or arrange your cookies in the bag. I tied my bag with a little twine and snipped the ends. Next I added a thin organza ribbon and a metallic one for accents. For the tag I cut out the “Sweets for the Sweet” tag and punched a hole in the bottom left for the scrapbook paper to show through. I positioned my chosen piece of decorative paper with the butterfly showing through and cut the paper so it was a little larger than the white tag. Stick the two pieces together with double sided tape and punch a hole to tie it on with the organza ribbon. This would be cute with peppermint colors for Christmas, Snowflakes in the winter, or hearts on Valentines Day!

Wilton Favor Kit

3/8″ Organza Ribbon

1/4″ Metallic Gold Ribbon

Mariposa Matstack

3/4″ circle cutter

Double Sided Tape

Fill your bag with cookies, fold the top over and tape shut on the back. Cut a piece of ribbon and trim to fit around the bag and tape them onto it at the back. Using double sided tape stick the “Handmade with Love” Tag onto the front. As an alternative tape a paper doily onto the front before you add the ribbons and tag. If the ribbons want to slide around on the bags you can use the double-sided tape to hold them down in one or two places as well.

Glassine Bags – these are about 6″ x 8″ but you could use bigger ones for a larger amount of cookies or smaller ones for a single cookie.

Grosgrain Ribbon Set

Decorative Trim – I couldn’t find anything like the red trim I found locally but here’s another option.

Paper Doilies – 4″ for this size of bag

Double Sided Tape

I hope you enjoyed this week of cookies and my ideas for packaging holiday cookies! Tag me in your packaging pictures and we’ll inspire each other. Thanks for pinning and sharing!
